Services Offered By Brora & Helmsdale Medical Practice
Non-NHS Services
We are contracted by the NHS to provide NHS services only. This can cause some confusion to patients who are used to free health care, but on occasion patients may request us to provide services which are not funded by the NHS for which a charge will accrue. An example of the range of non- NHS services is given below; in time we will publish a range of charges so you can see what the approximate costs of each service will be):
Requesting a private sickness certificate (employee)
Requesting a private sickness certificate (employer)
Completion of insurance document (no examination)
Letter from GP stating fitness to work, fly, carry medications overseas, support housing application etc
Application for shotgun licences etc.
Letter to school/University at parent/student request for absence, excusal for certain lessons, examinations etc
Private medical examinations (eg HGV, PSV etc)
Some travel health medications (Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines are provided free of charge by the NHS; all other travel vaccinations/advice accrue a charge both from the practice AND the pharmacist)
Request for seatbelt exemption (must be a strong clinical indication for these - very few conditions are so serious a seatbelt cannot be worn and we will not issue these unless we feel there is a genuine clinical indication)
